Red Beans, Replacement, & A Robot

Hello all! Let's start this post with a shot of some yummy, cheap, and (pretty) easy dinner. I made Red Beans and Rice from Fat Free Vegan. The side salad is topped with homemade French dressing a la Sarah Kramer.

The red beans took many hours to cook, and didn't get completely broken down, but were really tasty. I LOVE that things like Liquid Smoke and Zatarain's Crab Boil are vegan. They make Louisiana foods taste so good. I used Camelia brand beans because apparently not using them if you can get them is an insult to red beans and rice!

Here's the newest addition to my kitchen. I had the butterfingers the other day and dropped one of my little vintage Pyrex refrigerator dishes. Smash!! I try not to get wrapped up in "stuff" but I really wanted to cry! I hunted up a replacement and found a very fairly priced blue one on Etsy vintage (a site with which I am in love). I am naming him Percy. I don't normally name dishes, but this one looks quite intelligent and sensitive :P

In other news, we had a little breakfast-for-dinner night this week. I made these excellent wheat pancakes from How It All Vegan. Very tasty! I like 'em with Earth Balance and syrup.

Other bonus items:

My beautiful child resting her noggin on the blue coffee maker. She loves warm appliances.

And it's finally getting to be boot weather again! This little disembodied leg is me...I am so excited to have my new handsome robot, done by Gerry at Tattoo Zoo, peeping out of my boots this Fall and Winter.

Lastly, I bought four Christmas issues of ladies magazines from 1958 at an estate sale. I am getting totally obsessed with these old ads and wacky projects! Everyone I know might get weird 1950's crafts for Christmas this year!!!

First off, I love that robot! Also, my hubby's father is from La. so we love our southern/cajun/creole cooking around here. Red beans and rice? Oh yeah!

I love those little refridgerator dishes, they're so cute. I already have so much pyrex stuff, and now I want MORE!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only person to eat pancakes for dinner!
