So I had a challenge last night...we needed a gift for someone. Long story short, my husband paid for it and I used my own repurposed materials at home to wrap it. It was an odd experience, being in a big store and feeling the struggle. It wasn't a big deal, and I didn't want to buy anything for myself, but it felt kind of beside the point to just have Brad pay for something new we were buying so I wouldn't "break the rules."
Lesson: It is going to be a major thing to me to learn to get creative with gifts...and to plan ahead! I already have a "gift box" going where I keep used/vintage/homemade gifts I find, so I'll be ready when occasions come along.
I definitely don't want this Compacting experience to become something negative or restrictive. My whole goal is to see how long and far I can go on creativity and resourcefulness! I want to just give the debit card a break until I can get back to a point where buying a new dress or a gift or something is a really special and well-thought out experience. I've read a lot of articles about people who just basically got grouchy about shopping or walked around in duct-tape mended jackets. No thanks!!
I'm getting crafty! More updates as I go along :)

Thank you for your kind words about my jewelry! I'm honored that Sandy (www.sandyalamode.com) chose me for her first giveaway on her blog. =)
Your "compacting" project is a wonderful idea! I am excited to hear the your experience as you go along. :) *cheers*
That would be really hard. I'm pretty sure I'd break down after a couple days. Are you only counting material possessions? Or do you include fancy food items that don't really need? That would be my problem. :-)
Bianca- I'm trying to be mindful of what I buy foodwise, but I'm not going without the foods I like. Trying to limit fancy coffee, treats, etc. but that's for health as well! My main goal is to just scale down a little and appreciate things more.
What a wonderful project you have going here! It's great that you're trying to keep such a positive attitude about it. You can do it! Keep up the good work :)
