I made homemade falafel and hummus! I have wanted to do this forever, but after a few big disasters over the years (flaming blender, etc.!) I was a little intimidated!
Here are the raw chickpeas (soaked 24 hours) processed with parsley and other ingredients.
Here's my liquid courage! I needed a healthy amount of red wine to get through the processing and cooking!
We fry! The falafels in peanut oil:
And the finished product! Very much worth my time and fear of making yet another chickpea disaster!!
What are your favorite chickpea recipes?

Homemade falafel is the best thing ever! I need to make some more soon...and the hummus sounds fantastic. Did you use raw soaked chickpeas? I always cook mine (or use canned). I'll have to try soaking raw ones.
I am currently in a quiet war with falafel. I used to use the Fantastic Foods mix, but they must have changed the recipe, because the last several times I used it, they disintegrated upon frying. Since then, I have made several from-scratch batches using different recipes, and all have been failures. Friday night I tried again, and all seemed to be going well, but they got really crumbly after frying, and were very disappointing. I'm at the point where I am just going to give up, and only eat falafel when someone else has made it! Yours look tasty, and look like they held together. What recipe did you use?
I actually found this recipe in a vegetarian mom & baby cookbook. I was looking for more vitamin-dense recipes and this book has great chickpea stuff.
I was a little worried about the raw chickpeas, but it was great!
That falafel looks great!
