I am so excited about hooping! My honey got me a collapsible glow-in-the-dark hoop from HoopCity on Etsy. It is wonderful! I have read that a bigger hoop helps in making new moves easier to learn and it must be true!

Tonight I decided to try the glowy hoop at night. I (sadly!) demolished our living room light fixture trying to get my hoop nice and lit up (oooops! I think I can find a new light cover on the cheap!). I guess the sacrificing of the light was worth it, cuz I got two new tricks down that I haven't been able to do till now.

 Happy happy!

This is the video I am using to practice. It's fun and teaches basic moves.

Happy hooping!

Monday Eats...with cookies!

Last Monday I went into a day-off cooking frenzy. Here's what I came up with!

Chupacabra Blood Loaf from Please Don't Feed The Bears (verrrry good with ketchup and even better the next day in a big ketchupy Ezekiel bread sammich!!)

Joe Biel's Mashed Potatoes from Please Don't Feed The Bears: These are great! It's just skin-on potatoes with a self-determined amount of vegenaise, non-dairy milk and butter, cumin, garlic powder, Bragg's, salt, and pepper. Mmmm!

The big ole plate!

And later...for dessert- Sarah Kramer's Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies. Yum! I froze some extra dough for our next cookie attack!

Happy eating!

Books, baby!

I usually try to post what I'm reading, but I haven't done a sappy ode to books lately! My recent plan is to read classics or people's favorites that I've never gotten to.

My older favorites are Nancy Drew books, My Antonia, and Daisy Summerfield's Style (love love love, have read it TONS of times. If you like vintage style, retro stories about travel/going to the big city, and /or thinking about who you really want to be...get it!!!!)

In the not too distant past I read Diane Di Prima's Memoirs of A Beatnik for good measure.  I enjoyed it quite a bit and loved getting the feeling of a period of time so unique (and one that I would have liked to experience!). I figure if a book/author is a household name or has been in discussion for decades, I should see what all the ruckus is about! In that same vein, I read A Confederacy of Dunces, and I'm so glad I did. It is hilarious and timeless!

This week I tore through a copy of D.H. Lawrence's The Fox. It didn't do much for me, but I'm glad I read it. I really enjoy the feeling of reading a book, considered classic now, that tons of other people have read and thought about. (Note: I'm a collossal NERD full of nostalgia!!!) I loved the cover of our copy too.

Today at a garage sale I grabbed to "new to me" books:
Maggie: A Girl of the Streets by Stephen Crane, and The Aspern Papers and the Turn of the Screw by Henry James. I read a biography of Stephen Crane once that was really good, so I'm excited to read Maggie. I've got my warm coffee, it's a rainy day, and I'm about to jump in!!

What are you reading? Any favorites you think everyone should read?

Lovely trip to the Big Easy

We had a grrrreat trip to New Orleans! It was super productive for the store..we came back with tons of vinyl, merchandise, and two free mannequins from a Magazine St. boutique. It was also so SO beautiful to get to relax, eat, drink, and soak up some NOLA sights, sounds, and smells. Mmmmm...waking up to cathedral bells :)

Here are a few sights from our trip:

The bathroom at Cafe Envie (one of my faves for coffee!):

Christmas in July at Igor's:

I especially liked Igor's due to the giant plate of fries and Ani D lyrics on the bathroom wall!

We went to a Defiance, Ohio show at The Big Top.

A funny little sign:

A very yummy "garden slammer" at Slim Goodies: Yum!!

And yours truly and the mister...a little wacky after heat, rain, and such, but happy nonetheless!

Hope you are all well!

Sushi Pride!!

Life's bussssyy! I decided to break my coffee all day/wine all night cycle with a lovely homemade meal ;P

For just $3 in extra grocery supplies, I managed to make sushi and homemade miso soup. Score!!!!

I watched an video on veggie sushi just to refresh my mind. Here's my cucumber and avocado effort. I don't have a bamboo mat or anything...just kinda roll it till it sticks!

My miso soup recipe came from one of Sarah Kramer's cookbooks but I can't remember which one. It was deelicious and made a nice thermos lunch the next day.

The accoutrements...I made a heart-shaped pile of wasabi using my Sushi Sonic Wasabi Powder.

And because I never think to photograph post-meal...the aftermath!! Empty dishes, happy bellies!!

Sarah Kramer Breakfast!!!

Oh, the return to tofu scramble!!! I love it every time! Breakfast may be my favorite meal...Ezekial toast with Earth Balance, coffee...mmmmm!!!

This is Sarah Kramer's Sabrosa version...I've tried many scrambles, but I always prefer Mrs. Kramer's variations!

Cheers! We are off to New Orleans this weekend to stock up the store. Can't wait for a po-boy and maybe even a trip to LUSH!!

Garden Goodies + Pantry Staples= Awesome Eats

My mister LOVES anything involving peanut butter and we've gotten quite fond of the Asian peanut butter/chili sauce base for yummy sauces.

Recently we got another special delivery from the garden: snap peas and squash, so I broke out the tofu and peanut butter, and it was on!!! Cilantro, Sriracha, millet...mmmmmm!!!

Have a great day!

I ♥ coffee...and Natalie Dee.

I seriously go to bed at night gleefully anticipating morning simply so I can make a fresh pot of coffee! I've got it bad! My new job at the store is different that having my old work setting were coffee perked all day. Now I lovingly fix up a super-size thermos and nurse it till lunchtime!

Go check out Natalie Dee- I forgot how awesome she is!!!

I ♥ Coffee!!

Yay! I am very happy to say I won the following virtual pot o' gold from a contest over at Gathering My Roses.

It's wonderful! Coffee, a cannister, a scoop, and a to-go thermos. I am one happy java junkie! Thanks!

We also tried a new-to-us coffee shop last weekend en route to a record buying adventure for our store.

Brad was pleased with his super-mega sized coffee:

I ordered this humdinger of a soy drink:

Have a lovely day!!
