Product Review: EO Bath Goodies!!

Today I'd like to share about  some yummy scrummy bath goodies I have had the pleasure of trying lately: EO bath products! I was so impressed that I've already bought some EO minis for friends' Christmas gifts.

The scents I've enjoyed are the French Lavender and the Chocolate Mint especially! EO's scents are pleasant, but certainly not overhwhelming. The soap pictured scared me a little, as grapefruit and peppermint sound like a weird combo, but it's so gentle and bubbly...I love it!!

I also love that EO has many of the label icons I look for in my bath products: organic, recycled, cruelty-free, and vegan!!
What are your favorite bath goodies?

Josh's Old Skool Orzo With Asparagus & Roasted Garlic

Please Don't Feed the Bears Cookbook

But first...how cute are these little meeces? Not vegan, not wholly intact, but a very cute little scene I had to document.

Ok, so I am used to vegan cookzine recipes for crazy dishes that feed 1,000 or so of your closest punk rock family and friends...and I'm ok with that!! Most of the zines I have are meant to feed you cheaply and easily, hence the instructions for crazy tater tot casseroles and massive amounts of Indian food.

I was pleasantly surprised when this recipe from PDFTB made a moderate amount of food that tasted, well...fancy!!!

Do you have any favorite cookzine recipes?

Coconut Curried Veggies!

Yum! Another delight from La Dolce Vegan: Coconut Curried Veggies!

La Dolce Vegan!: Vegan Livin' Made Easy

This is an easy and fairly quick one-pot meal! I used brown rice rather than jasmine, so simmer time was longer. I also added some extra veggies: broccoli and peas. As usual, I subbed light coconut milk for regular style. Yummy!

As if the dish wasn't spicy enough, we topped it with Sriracha- we were aflame but very happy!

Huey Fong Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce (28oz)

Thanks, Sarah Kramer, for such yummilicious perfect healthy recipes!

Hip Mountain Mama Review: Lyra Wax-O-Glas Crayons!

Let me just say, I got very excited when I saw these Lyra Wax-O-Glas crayons on the HMM site! They draw on (and clean up easily off) glass! Oh the possibilities!!

We used the Lyra crayons to decorate our front glass door for the arrival of my bestie from Portland, OR!!

The crayons stay on well, but wipe off really easily. We can't wait to decorate a new door for family coming in for Thanksgiving. I highly recommend these crayons, not only for the cute end-product, but the fun family time involved in designing a masterpiece!

Happy Royal Wedding!!

Yay! Royal Wedding!!! I'm so excited! This means tons of fun magazines and teevee specials! Wheeee!!!

I am a fairly certifiable freakout regarding British kitsch and have an undying love for all royal hooha.

When I was little, I had a book about how being a Princess is a very important and serious job....I hope this new pair has a nice go of it!

Product Review: Artisana Nut Butters

I read about Artisana on one of my favorite blogs, Vegan Crunk, and knew I had to try it! Artisana was kind enough to send me some nut butters try, and I am happy to report that everything lived up to my hopes!

All the products I tried are raw and of excellent quality.

Here's Cacao Bliss with Wasa crackers:

Raw Walnut Butter on Ezekiel Bread:

and Raw Pecan Butter on Apples:

I also tried Artisana's Cashini Butter and have totally abandoned peanut butter in the process!

The Cashini butter is so creamy and richly flavored without being too sweet- deeelicious!!

I highly recommend Artisana products and think you'll love them too!

Thanks, Artisana!

Homemade Falafel & Hummus!!

I made homemade falafel and hummus! I have wanted to do this forever, but after a few big disasters over the years (flaming blender, etc.!) I was a little intimidated!

Here are the raw chickpeas (soaked 24 hours) processed with parsley and other ingredients.

Here's my liquid courage! I needed a healthy amount of red wine to get through the processing and cooking!

We fry! The falafels in peanut oil:

And the finished product! Very much worth my time and fear of making yet another chickpea disaster!!

What are your favorite chickpea recipes?

Giveaway Alert!

Very cute giveaway over at Trendy Mamas!

Lily Pulitzer Planner!!!

Eden Organics

So here's today's question: Do you use canned beans, or cook dried beans?

I avoided dried beans forever, thinking that cooking them was some kind of secret and complicated activity meant only for awesome grandmas or something. I was scared off by the soaking, seasoning, and so on...

Boy was I wrong! In an effort to save some money and cut out salt/weird extra chemicals, I began buying and cooking dried beans and peas. I love it! I even have all my beans in reused glass jars with cute labels. Tell me where you can find black beans labeled with cute kittens, or chickpeas labeled with Kermit The Frog? My pantry, that's where!!

I am a longtime fan of Eden Organics, and was excited to have the opportunity to try Eden's organic garbanzo beans recently. I haven't used any canned beans in a long time, so I was excited to do a little comparison and contrast.

Eden sent me these:

and I made this:

It's a sort of hybrid tortilla soup from scratch. I toasted corn tortillas in the oven to make the chips and topped it with avocado. For my husband's bowl (shown), I threw some cheese, chicken and pre-made strips from a free salad kit from Fresh Express. (Go play this game for coupons and contest!)

So back to the soup! I can't comment on the chicken-ified bowl (he was very pleased and said it was the best "tofu" I've ever made- lol- I had to come clean about the pre-bagged chicken!), but my vegan version was deeelicious! I can honestly say that the Eden beans were of higher quality than previous canned chickpeas I've eaten. They were firm, tasted good, and were not over-salted. Nice! Check out Eden's site...they have an amazing array of foods!

What are your favorite beans?

Purty Digs

Ah!! I found an Interbot house that totally encourages me about my own dwelling choices!! I love my decor style, and couldn't change it if I wanted, because it's so *me*...that being said, sometimes I give myself a hard time about not being more grown-up or coordinated. We have ZERO store-bought furniture (all hand-me-downs or thrift), nothing matches, everything is torn/scraped/chipped/etc. I like to think we are a less red-headed, fairly un-witchy version of the Weaslys from Harry Potter.

I love my cozy home, but get all miffed sometimes when I go somewhere that is color coordinated, fragrant, and crazy-clean. :(

These are some other homes I love...from Moon To Moon blog.

Here's a little snippet of our house:

This Nikki McClure card is a great image of how I want my home to feel:

Anyhoo...this virtual house tour on Apartment Therapy totally made me smile. It also made me want to make plant babies of all my house plants, paint more rooms, and lift my self-imposed ban on cool thrift decorations. Uhhh, maybe I shouldn't have gotten rid of all those vintage suitcases during my brief obsession with the 100 Things Challenge....

And how does this relate to Vegan MOFO, you ask? Well I'm on it! This house is in Victoria, BC, where my very favorite, ultra-glam, vegan heroine herself, Sarah Kramer, lives. Score!!!
