Homemade Deodorant Check-In...One Month Later

Well lovely Pixiepiners...it's been just a little over a month since I first posted about making my own deodorant.

Any venture that wacky deserves some follow-up.

Here's the rundown for the month.

Times I've used store-bought deo: 0
Times I've felt stinky: 2-3*
Times I felt sweaty in the pits: 2

It is winter, so as I said before, the real test will most certainly be a Louisiana summer with 3 digit temps every day. Still, as long as I don't get too funky, I will rock this homemade deo. It's just awesome.

The times I felt stinky, I know that no one else could smell me. Those were a couple of evenings that, at the end of the day, a big sniff of my own armpit yielded some stink. It was however, way less stinky than the funk I got with the store-bought naturals I've tried.

What would I change?
My only annoyance after a month is that the scent I made was a little to herbal for me to love day after day. I think I will make the next batch with lavender and rose and/or vanilla, or maybe a little orange. Otherwise, I am in love with this mixture and will be sticking with it!

Yay! Vegan, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, homemade, cheap, and fully customizable. Oh yeah, and won't jack up your body or brain. Wheee!

One maybe too personal question - do you shave your armpits? I don't so I'm just wondering if it'll clump up. I use a crystal rock but that really doesn't cut it; I recently went back to Toms of Maine because it was on sale...

Hiya- I do shave my pits. I have a friend who doesn't and I should see how she likes this recipe so far. I'm thinking, because coconut oil softens/melts when you rub it in your hands, it would be great with fuzzy pits as long as you rub it in and make sure it gets to your skin. This mixture has by far beat my experiences with Tom's and Kiss My Face, both of which were pretty pitiful.

Hey! I am putting together a vegan community blog. It is a blog where any vegan blogger can post whenever they want, promote what they want, pretty much do whatever they want. If you are interested and have a blogger account just send me your blog account email to kaycee@donevegan.com and I can add you as an author so you can freely post, or you can send any submissions to submissions@donevegan.com and I can manually post them.

Let me know if you are interested in contributing and I can send you more info if needed.
Thanks!

Iamde this recipe soon after your first post and it's worked grat for me and my wife. My wife alternates between shaving and bare and I've never shaved mine and it works fine. We didn't scent it at all, at first then we addded some lavender, recently just to see how that works.

I am looking forward to seeing how effective it is in swamp city in triple digit July.

Glad to hear the deo is working well for you, BayouCityBuddhist! I am interested to see how it holds up this summer too :)

I couldn't help but laugh at the mental image of you sniffing your own armpits! LOL!

Erin- it's pretty awesome that this works so well I never sniff in public!

I do however do occasional pit research at the end of the day- just to make sure it's still working!!
:P

I have been waiting for the follow up to your homemade deo, and here it is! I have all of the ingredients on hand(We use coconut oil for diaper rash prevention as it's cloth diaper safe) so today i'm going to give it a go. MY hubs has such a hard time with me using the clinical strength stuff stuff that i've used as a last resort to staying stink free. He thinks it's slowly killing me...poor sweet guy. Anyhow, he will be super happy with my new natural alternative. I'm going to use lavender:)

Kate- yay! As it gets hotter here I am noticing a little more funk, but it's still totally manageable with another swipe of the deo late in the day. I'm still sticking with it. I bought a few Aura Cacia blends like Mellow Mix and Cool Hottie to try for scents next batch.
