I am using a lot of tahini these days, and as I tend to do, got stubborn about the $7 and change price tag on a jar. Here's my effort to make tahini at home for waaay cheaper!
Toasting the sesame seeds:
The finished product:
It's darker and grainier than my store-bought tahini, but it's also organic and cheap-o. I will update on how it works in hummus, dressings, etc. as I use it. So far, so good!
Edited to add:
Since I made the tahini, I've used it to make the best homemade baba ganoush ever! It definitely gets the seal of approval! :)

That's a great idea! I love making hummus, so I will have to try to make the tahini myself too. Thanks for sharing!
I can't believe the price!!!!! Can you share how you did it? After you toast the seeds do you just throw them into a food processor? I am very interested...especially since its delish!
Here's a great post with a recipe. I just googled around and improvised.

what a great idea thank you for sharing it!
the best thing about this whole post is your love-hearted hand writing on the jar! and homemade label! super cute! also, tahini - YUM!
Thank you for sharing this, Leslie! I have always wanted to make hummus but the cost of tahini has scared me away. I love that you have made this yourself. I'm so going to try this!!
Awesome! I've also seen today someone make her own coconut butter. I don't really see myself making my own tahini because luckily, I can find a fair amount at a Middle Eastern place around here for pretty cheap, but this does sound like a fun money saver for others.
Thanks for all the nice comments, ya'll!
