I am not a big teevee watcher, but when we are tuning in, the Food Network is a staple. I love cooking shows! Since I live in reality, I don't get upset when most shows focus on some very nasty (IMO) "proteins." Just because I don't eat meat doesn't mean others have to make that decision or tiptoe around it.
That being said....DAMN. Did anyone watch the Worst Cooks episode last night? It was such a pitiful representaion of veganism that I wanted to hide under my couch...or go on attack. Problem #1: One of the contestants wives came on and shared that she was vegan, mostly due to her husband's horrible cooking. Problem #2: Furthermore, she agreed wholeheartedly to eating a porkchop stuffed with bacon, but only if he cooked it nicely. Problem #3: She happily ate the meat (both her husband's dish and the other contestant's lobster extravaganza!) on camera, just a'smiling.
GAH!! What is up?! I like the contestants on this show, and I know they are real people who deserve respect amd shouldn't get blasted for stuff they did on a reality show. At the same time, think a little, people! Why even sully the name of actual practing vegans by throwing in this obviously meat-eating person calling herself a vegan? Geez. It got me riled up. I know everyone can make their own choices, but with all the lame crap that vegans (for reasons of ethics, health, allergies, religion, or otherwise) put up with, WHY FOOD NETWORK?!!!
Maybe just to create a little stir. Mission accomplished at camp Pixiepine!!! *Grumble grumble grumble, waving fist in the air*

You're not alone - the mister and I were watching last night and as soon as she made that comment about how she's vegan because of his inability to cook, we looked at each other in shock... I couldn't watch her eat it, that's for sure. It's people like her, or the highly public flippant 'vegans' (cough cough Zoe Deschanel) that make me cringe. To be totally honest the vegan cupcake battle wasn't any better because it's a vegan battle, yet they used "vegan" every other word like some sort of vegan Valley girls. WE GET IT. I'm a vegan and I'm proud of it, but when you get so preachy no one likes you, not even other vegans.
I called FoodNetwork out last year in a post during VeganMoFo, saying I was ready for my throwdown, but Natalie of Bake & Destroy tells me that it's really not worth it ;)
Saw the re-run yesterday - refused to watch the final. I am so done with that show! Now if they had a practicing kosher Hebrew agree to eat pork would the sponsors roll over? Don't eat meat - go eat meat - live your life but a vegan choice is not a fad because your husband is a bad cook. It was unreal.
